BBFC

Explain the role of BBFC

The role of BBFC is giving films the correct age rating and they ‘bring uniformity to the classification of film nationally’. They were set up in 1912, the year when the film industry developed nationally and internationally.

Research film classification and what the guidelines for each one
Find at least 3 films that are similar to yours and explain why they have those particular ratings.
Black Swan, came out 2011; Natalie Portman playing the main character, Nina, who is losing control- both of her sides(good and bad) are conflicting with each other.

Black Swan is a psychological-horror thriller that has a rating of '15' because it contains strong context of sexual scenes, the use of language and bloody images, which are obviously not appropriate for young children. All of these reasons are also incorporated for the reasons why a movie is 18 but this movie is not 18 because those reasons are don't show a depth of detail, in this movie they should a reasonable amount but not in detail.

Annabelle, came out 2014; Mia's doll embraces the evil summon which the blood caused her to be.

Annabelle is a supernatural horror film that has a rating of '15' because it contains strong context of horror elements such as blood, fire, tension, suspense and it has bloody violence, which is not suitable for anyone under 15 as it could be traumatising for them to watch and it is aimed for people who are able to watch this movie, in this case, it is 15 year olds and above. This movie is reasonably scary but not scary or gory enough to have the age rating to be 18.

The Boy Next Door is an erotic thriller movie that has a rating of '18' because it contains very strong language, erotic sexual scenes and very strong violence that would not be suitable for people under 18 as the plot itself and the scenes within the movie are too gruesome or revealing for viewers that are below the age requirement. Even though, this movie is '18' it had some scene cuts and it has some elements that any 15, PG, U movie has.

Justify your ratings
Our group's short movie will have an age rating of '15' as there will be reasonable amount of language used, violence and bloody scenes included in our movie, which is obviously  not appropriate for people under our target audience( 15 year olds and above). We aim to make our movie very thriller based so we are incorporating elements that are needed for 15 age requirement movie.
